Smart home setup, one vetted pro at a time

A video doorbell that keeps dropping, cameras to mount, a thermostat to swap, Wi-Fi that won't reach. Describe it and Roger books one local pro and confirms the time.

FAQ

Smart Home questions, answered

Do smart switches or a smart thermostat need an electrician?+

Sometimes. Many smart switches need a neutral wire that older homes don't have in every box, and many smart thermostats need a common (C) wire for power. If the job means opening the electrical panel or running new wiring, it is electrical work, and Roger routes it that way when you describe it. Power should always be off at the breaker before anyone removes a switch or thermostat. Smart locks go to a locksmith.

My video doorbell keeps going offline. What should I check?+

First, whether your Wi-Fi actually reaches the front door, since doorbells often sit at the edge of the signal. Then the battery, or for wired models, whether the doorbell transformer supplies enough power. A pro can test both and suggest a fix, like a mesh access point or a new transformer.

How do I keep my smart devices secure?+

Change default passwords, use a strong Wi-Fi password, turn on two-step sign-in for the device apps, and keep firmware updated. Ask the pro to set up every account in your name and hand you all the logins before they leave.

Does Roger charge homeowners anything?+

No. Roger is free for homeowners. The pro you are matched with charges for the work, and Roger does not add a markup on top of their price.
