How do I book an HVAC repair through Roger?

Describe what the system is doing in plain language — no cold air, no heat, a thermostat that won't respond. Roger reads the description, works out what is likely wrong, books one vetted, licensed local HVAC pro, and confirms the appointment time with you. You are not handed a list of contractors to call.

Does Roger charge homeowners anything?

No. Roger is free for homeowners. The pro you are matched with charges for the work, and Roger does not add a markup on top of their price.

Is any of this safe to try before the pro arrives?

A few things are. Check that the thermostat has fresh batteries and is set to the right mode, look at whether the breaker for the system has tripped, and replace a filter that is visibly clogged — a dirty filter is behind a surprising share of no-cooling calls. Refrigerant, gas, and anything inside the electrical panel are pro-only.

My furnace smells like gas. What should I do?

Stop and treat it as an emergency, not a repair booking. Leave the building, do not touch light switches or anything else electrical, and call your gas utility's emergency line or 911 from outside. Book the repair after the gas company has made the property safe.

Is it worth repairing an old system or should I replace it?

It depends on the age of the unit, what failed, and whether the failure is a wear part or the compressor or heat exchanger. A pro should walk you through both options with the actual condition of your unit in front of them, rather than quoting a replacement before diagnosing.
