Concrete and masonry, one vetted pro at a time
A cracked driveway, crumbling steps, brick with failing mortar, a retaining wall that leans. Describe it and Roger books one local pro and confirms the time.

Concrete & Masonry questions, answered
I found a crack in my foundation. How worried should I be?+
Thin vertical hairline cracks are common as concrete cures and settles. Cracks that are wider than a pencil lead, run horizontally or in a stair-step pattern through block or brick, keep growing, or show up along with doors and windows that start sticking deserve a professional look. Photograph the crack with a coin or ruler next to it and note the date, so you can tell if it changes. Some cases call for a structural engineer.
My retaining wall is leaning. What should I do?+
Keep people, kids and cars away from the base and the top of the wall, and don't pile soil, snow or anything heavy behind it. A leaning or bulging wall usually means water is building up behind it with nowhere to drain. Taller walls can be serious, so book an inspection rather than waiting for it to move further.
Can I patch the mortar in my brick myself?+
Small spots, maybe, but the mortar matters. Older brick is often softer than modern mortar, and patching it with hard modern mortar can make the brick itself crack and flake over time. A mason should match the mortar to the brick. Also look at where water is coming from, since mortar usually fails where water sits.
Does Roger charge homeowners anything?+
No. Roger is free for homeowners. The pro you are matched with charges for the work, and Roger does not add a markup on top of their price.
