FAQ

Gutters questions, answered

Should I clean my gutters myself?+

Ladder falls are one of the most common ways people get hurt doing home maintenance. On a one-story house, with a stable ladder on firm, level ground and someone holding it, light cleaning can be a DIY job. For two-story homes, steep slopes, or gutters near the power line coming into the house, book a pro. Stay well clear of that line.

My gutters overflow even though they're clean. Why?+

Usually the downspout is clogged, the gutter isn't sloped toward the downspout, or there aren't enough downspouts for the size of the roof. Water pouring over the front of the gutter soaks the ground at the foundation and rots the fascia board behind it, so it is worth fixing even if nothing looks broken yet.

Where should my downspouts drain?+

Away from the house, usually several feet out, onto ground that slopes away from the foundation. Downspouts that empty right at the wall are a common cause of wet basements and cracked walkways. Extensions or underground drain lines often solve it.

Does Roger charge homeowners anything?+

No. Roger is free for homeowners. The pro you are matched with charges for the work, and Roger does not add a markup on top of their price.
